Listen My Children

Listen my children, and you shall hear,

A story of a tale neither far nor near

Of two children with a secret love

But one has sadly risen too high above

Stuck in an Earth without her heart

How will they ever learn to live apart?

The girl with the dark curls,

The boy with the watercolor eyes

Their connection rare as pearls

An object of which people prize

Blue piercing stares

Meet shining-teeth smile

Each make the other forget all their cares

Even the visits less than five felt worthwhile

Each letter he’d send, the words on his tongue

Made his heart burst and not feel so young

Every time, a question was asked

Will you love me even when our time has passed?

But so soon came the day

When he must move away

He went to her home to say

“I’m moving away,

Right after May

You won’t see me again

But I’m glad I knew you, because you were always my best friend”

What she would never know

Was that his heart will always glow

And he will always yearn for her

As the waves will wash with wind on the sand

And the memories of her will always be a distant blur
